چکیده

When people ride an autonomous car, they might feel anxiety because they cannot know how it may move. Adding artificially augmented signals, which represent coming changes of the vehicle, it may be useful to reduce anxiety by change expectation. Thus we executed an experiment examining whether ascending sound could decrease passenger’s anxiety, while riding on virtual autonomous car. In the experiment, participants saw 360-degree computer-graphics world through a headmounted-display. The stimuli were views from a moving car with 2 speed (19 and 320 km/h), half of which was added ascending and descending sound at first / last 6 secs. Results of the heart-wave analysis as biometric index, i.e., index of sympathetic nervous (LF/HL), showed a marginal interaction between existence of sounds and the vehicle speed; while sounds reduced participants’ anxiety with high-speed condition, they showed higher tension with sound at slow-speed conditions.

Vehicle Accessibility: Association with Novice Teen Driving Conditions

Novice teen drivers have disproportionally elevated crash rate compared to older drivers’. The high crash rate among novices is generally attributed to multiple risk factors, including driving inexperience, young age, risky driving behavior, vehicle accessibility, time of day, and driving with teenage passengers. The current naturalistic driving study with novice-teenagers evaluated the associa...

Risk factors for subsequent impaired driving by injured passengers.

OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to evaluate the rate of, and risk factors for, subsequent impaired driving activity (IDA) in a cohort of injured passengers who were treated for injuries in a Canadian trauma center. METHODS We studied adult passengers who were occupants in vehicles involved in motor vehicle crashes (MVCs) and either included in the British Columbia (BC) trauma registr...

Prediction of Driver’s Accelerating Behavior in the Stop and Go Maneuvers Using Genetic Algorithm-Artificial Neural Network Hybrid Intelligence

Research on vehicle longitudinal control with a stop and go system is presently one of the most important topics in the field of intelligent transportation systems. The purpose of stop and go systems is to assist drivers for repeatedly accelerate and stop their vehicles in traffic jams. This system can improve the driving comfort, safety and reduce the danger of collisions and fuel consumption....

Driving, navigation, and vehicular technology: experiences of older drivers and their co-pilots.

OBJECTIVE The objective of this article is to explore relationship between older drivers and their passengers (co-pilots) and potential implications of in-vehicle navigation technology on their driving safety. METHODS Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 44 healthy, community-dwelling older adults (aged 60-83) or 22 married couples. Males identified themselves as drivers and females...

Hard Braking Events Among Novice Teenage Drivers By Passenger Characteristics.

In a naturalistic study of teenage drivers (N = 42) hard braking events of ≤-0.45 g were assessed over the first 6 months of licensure. A total of 1,721 hard braking events were recorded. The video footage of a sample (816) of these events was examined to evaluate validity and reasons for hard braking. Of these, 788 (96.6%) were estimated valid, of which 79.1% were due to driver misjudgment, 10...
